Indian Property Office of India has proposed to increase the trademark application fee from Rs. 4500 to Rs. 9000 for online applications and Rs. 10000 for paper filings. Renewal fees are also likely to be increased from the existing Rs. 5000 to Rs. 10000.
India has opposed the proposed European Trademark rules that will allow European Union (EU) customs officials to seize goods in transit on grounds of suspected trademark violations. India fears the provision will be used, like in the past, to seize low-cost generic medicines headed for African and Latin American countries at EU ports.
